MAGU ELECTS NEW OFFICE BEARERS FOR STUDENT COUNCIL

Each Academic year during the second semester, Malawi Assemblies of God University students vote into office a new students council to represent them on their welfare to the university administration. The elections managed by an independent body MAGU Electoral Commission (MEC) made up of class representatives were held on the 3rd of December 2020.

Each office in the council is held by one person and for a term of one year. Candidates who nurse an interest in running for the offices are supposed to register with MEC. Candidates allowed to contest only after meeting all the requirements as stipulated in the Student’s Council Constitution. The major requirement is passing a vetting process conducted by the office of the University Registrar. The voting is done in a single day in the University Chapel from 6 am to 6 pm.

This year’s Council election was filled with anticipation and excitement with candidates campaigning passionately to entice voters to vote them in office. The Offices contested for were as follows; the office of the President, Vice President, General Secretary, Accountant General and Entertainment Director. The rest of the offices were given directly to those who registered, passed the vetting process and had no contenders.
