MAGU was privileged to be the first University to receive copies of Mr Chancy Gongwe’s  Biography titled; CHANCY VINNY GONDWE AND THE UNTOLD STORY OF MALAWI FOOTBALL. The book was authored by Mr Reuben H. Chilera a seasoned Malawian author and publisher. Mr Gondwe was welcomed by the Dean of Education, Dr Kamuzu Shaba who represented the Vice-Chancellor on the day. In his remarks, Mr Gondwe said that he was greatly humbled to have donated the copies of the book to the school as it is the sister school to Malawi Assemblies of God Institute of Theology (MAGIT) where he did his three years pastoral school.

Mr Gondwe’s book talks about his life as a footballer in Malawi. It further, narrates about his national duties, local club duties and his life in the international club scene in South Africa. Apart from his life in football, the book talks about the history of football in Malawi, the golden age and the downfall of Malawian football. The book also exposes the dark history of the Malawian football most especially the politics and greed in football circles. Apart from this, the book also takes us back to the history of the two major clubs in Malawian football; Bata Bullets (BB) and Wanderers Football Club which have been historical in the battle of supremacy in the city of Blantyre in what is popularly known as Blantyre Derby. Gondwe said the book cannot be silent on these two teams which have contributed tremendously towards the Malawian football.

Mr Gondwe’s life experienced a lot of transitions from wealth to poverty. He discusses the poor choices he made that led him to become drunk and almost losing his life. His Turn around from a footballer to a Pastor is a testimony to many who witnessed the type of life that he had due to football glory. Dr Kamuzu Shaba in his closing remarks thanked Mr Gondwe for donating the book to the university and extended the gratitude from the University on the donation. He also asked other well-wishers to emulate the gesture set by Mr Gondwe.
