Special Issue: “Education in Emergencies”

The MAGU Journal of Education and Social Sciences (published by Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU)) with support from National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) invites scholars, practitioners, academics and other key stakeholders in Malawi, Africa and globally, to respond to the call for papers on the theme: ‘Education in Emergencies’. Emergencies like war, weather changes and health crisis (e.g., COVID 19) affect education in different ways. During emergencies, the education community faces challenges of ensuring equitable access to education as well as efficient evaluation of teaching and learning. This Special Issue will address how education is affected by and responds to emergencies. In particular, it will explore issues of access, resources, learning environment, quality of teaching and learning, and how despite the challenges exacerbated by emergencies, children, youth and adult learners, can be supported to make use of educational opportunities that equip them with skills and knowledge needed to uplift and improve their lives. Proposals for this Special Issue will be evaluated against the following benchmarks:

  • Clarity of focus and argument within an identified analytical/theoretical framework
  • Critical engagement with relevant literature
  • Appropriate research methods (including data, sources, evidence, objectives and/or materials)
  • An outline of results and/or substantiated conclusions or warrants for arguments/point of view
  • Scholarly significance
  • Alignment with the Special Issue

MAGU Education and Social Sciences Journal is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal and publishes original research and theoretical papers, including book reviews. The journal welcomes papers that are conceptually strong and critical in addressing pertinent issues in education and social sciences, including interdisciplinary topics in these two broad subject areas. Its core aim is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussion and debate about critical issues in education and social sciences. The journal is published annually by MAGU, which also publishes two other journals: MAGU Ethne Journal and MAGU Business Journal.
